Part-Time Faculty Opportunities
Think About It!
Thinking about part time teaching at the UBC Faculty of Dentistry?
The Faculty of Dentistry at the University of British Columbia is dedicated to progressive dental education with the goal of preparing today's students for the changing dental needs of the community. Over the past several years, the Faculty has been implementing a new hybrid-PBL curriculum that emphasizes professionalism, student-centered learning and self-directed study. We expect our new students to be much more focused on learning the basic biomedical and behavioural sciences simultaneously with the clinical education they are experiencing. The new curriculum has resulted in a 10-month academic year as opposed to the much shorter 7-month year and we are moving more to the surgical model of teaching that emphasizes mentorship, demonstration of clinical procedures and incremental achievement of competency. Consequently, we need to create a resource of clinical educators who can serve these changing needs. We now rely more heavily than ever on the clinical experience of general practitioners in our community who are generous enough to serve as part-time faculty members. Specialists are also required in our clinic to serve as Consultants in their area of expertise.
We appreciate your interest in our Dental School and if you would like more information about participating in our various teaching programs, please contact our Manager of Clinical Programs, Linda Gerow at 822-5898 (fax: 822-3562), or e-mail lgerow@interchange.ubc.ca.
