I studied at the University of British Columbia (B.Sc and M.Sc) and at the Karolinska Institutet, Sweden (Fil.dr) in the areas of immunochemistry and Immunobiology. After receiving my doctoral degree I completed two postdoctoral fellowships at the University of California San Diego, USA and at University College London, UK. My first academic position was as a Lecturer in the Department of Biochemistry at Charing Cross Hospital Medical School, London, UK. At this time I was also an associate at the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology where I carried out my research. I joined the Faculty of Dentistry in 1983 and have been involved in rheumatoid arthritis research since that time. My recent research involves the investigation of chemokine signals that are important for the navigation of cells into areas of inflammation and the development of chemokine antagonists as potential therapeutic modalities in the treatment of inflammatory diseases. The inflammatory diseases we are concentrating on are Rheumatoid Arthritis and Sjogrens Syndrome.
