Faculty Support
The competition for talent is intense worldwide. Despite our strong reputation, we face major challenges in attracting and retaining dental faculty. In addition, many long-standing members of our Faculty are due to retire over the next few years. We must ensure that the conditions of employment and the working environment for our faculty members are as attractive as possible.
The most effective way to accomplish this is by establishing endowed professorships or chairs.
A professorship is held by a UBC Dentistry professor. The University funds the cost of the salary, while the professorship covers both salary incentives and research support. Professorships are the fundraising priority for some faculties, which seek to attract the best possible teachers and researchers.
A chair allows for the appointment of an established scholar, usually a professor. Chairs are fully funded by the donor, and cover salary and research costs. Donors may designate chairs either as general university chairs, or as chairs in a specific department.
Our priorities in this area are:
- Research Fund
- Bureau of Legal Dentistry (BOLD)
