Advanced Orthodontics for the General Practitioner

| back to course description |

I have happily been a member of the Advanced Orthodontic Study Club at UBC for the past 4 years. Over that time I have immensely increased my understanding and knowledge in fixed orthodontics. I felt my undergrad training was lacking in this discipline and since enrolling I am much more confident and prepared to proceed with fixed orthodontics in my practice.

This has not only added a new knowledge base to my practice but an additional line of revenue that was not previously there.

Typically patients do not want to go somewhere else if you are able to offer them the service in house, and this participation in the Study Club has allowed me to further satisfy my patient’s requests for orthodontics and given me the confidence to provide them with the service.

The Study Club has been a great resource and back up for my desire to practice fixed orthodontics in my practise. I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in expanding his or her knowledge or skills in orthodontics.

Sincerely,
Garry Lunn

I have been a member of this study club for probably 23 years and still continue to enjoy it. I always learn something new from it. Clem has been a good mentor and the people who have joined it, I find that they have been gaining better skills over the years due to the study club and thus overall increasing their knowledge base. This hopefully allows clinicians to render better quality of care to the public. For both myself and my brother, Hanif this has definitely been the case. Ortho forms about 4% of my practice production and has been very useful!

Kind regards,
Salma Ramji

I have been a member of the UBC Advanced Ortho Study club for over a decade.

Throughout the years I have gained valuable experience and knowledge to treat most if not all malocclusions.

I am able to treat ClassI crowding, Cl II Div 1 and Div 2 cases and select Class III cases. I know which cases to refer and can trouble shoot my own cases.

By adding orthodontic treatment to my office I have been able to increase the production but more importantly have been able to provide more services to my patients. My patients appreciate the fact that they do not have to go elsewhere for orthodontic treatment and parents are happy that they can have all their dentistry done at one office.

With the new Invisalign Policy for the ten case proficency requirement it becomes more important to have orthodontic skills. Practitioners do not have to rely on Invisalign for orthodontic treatment.

In addition to clinical knowledge, I have built many new friendships and professional connections over my years with the club.

Yours Sincerely,
Dr. Jim Der
