Farzin Ghannad, DDS, MSc, Dip. Perio, FCDS(BC), FRCD(C) earned his dental degree from the University of Goettingen, Germany in 1996. He moved to Ottawa in 1997 where he maintained a successful general dental practice until 2004. In 2007, Dr. Ghannad completed his 3 year Masters Specialty training in Periodontics & Implant Surgery at the University of British Columbia earning a Diploma in Periodontics and Master of Science. During his studies, Dr. Ghannad was granted the Nobel Biocare Achievement award twice for excellence in the field of Implant Dentistry and was the recipient of the Kathleen McAnulty Memorial Prize in Graduate Periodontics.

Dr. Glenn van As
Glenn van As, DMD, graduated from the Faculty of
Dentistry at the University of British Columbia in 1987.
Since that time, Glenn has built a High tech – High
touch dental practice where the entire dental team is
committed to using the latest technologies available to provide the highest level of clinical excellence in dentistry. In
addition to being in full time private practice, Dr. van As has
served as an assistant clinical professor at U.B.C. from 1989–1999.
His areas of interest and expertise involve the utilization of the
Dental Operating Microscope for all of his clinical dentistry and
in the use of multiple wavelengths of hard and soft tissue lasers
for many procedures in his private general practice. Since 1999,
Glenn has lectured over 200 times internationally, provided
hands-on workshops, and has published internationally on the
value of both multiple wavelengths of lasers and practicing with
the high magnifications obtainable with the dental operating
microscope.

Daniel A. Haas
Daniel A. Haas, DDS, PhD, FRCD(C), is professor and Dean at the University of Toronto Faculty of Dentistry. He holds the Arthur Zwingenberger Decanal Chair and has a cross-appointment with the Department of Pharmacology, Faculty of Medicine. He was the 2004 recipient of the International Association for Dental Research Distinguished Scientist Award for Pharmacology/Therapeutics/Toxicology. He received the W.W. Wood Award for Excellence in Dental Education in 2005. He received the 2007 Heidbrink award from the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology for outstanding contributions to anesthesia in dentistry, and the 2010 Leonard Monheim award from the American Society of Dentist Anesthesiologists for outstanding contributions to anesthesiology benefiting the dental profession, being the first Canadian to win either of these last 2 awards. He has lectured internationally on the subjects of pharmacology, anesthesia, and medical emergencies in dentistry.

Dr. Nasser Barghi
Nasser Barghi, DDS is Professor and Head of the
Division of Esthetic Dentistry in the Department of
Restorative Dentistry at The University of Texas
Health Science Center at San Antonio Dental
School, in San Antonio, Texas. He has presented more than 500
didactic and hands-on clinical courses in over 30 countries. Dr.
Barghi has authored and co-authored over 240 articles and
abstracts and has completed a great amount of research on
bonding new esthetic materials and etched porcelain bonded
restorations.
Dr. Barghi is a member of the American Academy of Esthetic
Dentistry, the American Academy of Fixed Prosthodontics and
the International Association for Dental Research. He is past
president of the American Equilibration Society.

Dr. Ricardo Carvalho and Dr. Adriana Manso
Ricardo Carvalho, DDS, PhD received his DDS
(1986) and his Ph.D (1993) from the University of
São Paulo, Bauru School of Dentistry, Bauru, SP,
Brazil. He was a Visiting Scholar in the
Department of Biomaterials, University of
Alabama at Birmingham, post-doc and Adjunct Assistant
Professor in the Department of Oral Biology and Maxillofacial
Pathology at Georgia Health Sciences University, and Visiting
Professor in several other dental schools in the USA and Japan.
Dr. Carvalho has taught Operative Dentistry, Dental Materials and
Prosthodontics at University of São Paulo, Brazil (1988-2011),
University of Florida, Gainesville, FL, USA (2008- 2009); and is
currently at the University of British Columbia. He has authored,
co-authored over 180 scientific publications in peer-reviewed
journals, 7 books and book chapters, and several other technical
publications in the field of Restorative Dentistry and Dental
Biomaterials.
Adriana Pigozzo Manso, DDS, MSc, PhD received
her dental degree from the Faculty of Dentistry at the
University of Londrina, Parana, Brazil in 1992. She
became a specialist in Endodontics in 1995 and in
Operative Dentistry in 2001. Her MSc degree in
Operative Dentistry in 2005, and PhD degree in Dental Materials
in 2009 were both received from the University of São Paulo. She
was full time in private practice for 14 years. In 2001 she started
her teaching activities at Specializations Courses in Operative
Dentistry in Brazil. In 2008-2009 she worked as a Clinical
Assistant Professor in the Department of Operative Dentistry at
the College of Dentistry at the University of Florida. She joined
UBC in December 2011 as Clinical Assistant Professor in the
Biomaterials Division at the University of British Columbia (UBC)
in Vancouver, Canada. Dr. Manso has authored or co-authored 15
scientific articles in peer reviewed international journals, 3 book
chapters, and 4 articles in technical magazines. She is also
reviewer of Operative Dentistry and Journal Biomedical Materials
Research. She has scientific and clinical special interest in dentin
bond durability, adhesive systems, resin composites and dental
cements.

Dr. Charles Shuler
Charles F. Shuler, DMD, PhD is the Dean of the Faculty
of Dentistry at the University of British Columbia. Prior
to UBC he was a faculty member at the University of
Southern California for 18 years. At USC he served as
the Director of the University of Southern California
Center for Craniofacial Molecular Biology holding an endowed chair
position as the George and Mary Lou Boone Professor of Craniofacial
Molecular Biology. He also served as the Director of the Graduate
Program in Craniofacial Biology and the Associate Dean for Student
and Academic Affairs at the USC School of Dentistry. Dr. Shuler
received his B.S. in Biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin,
his D.M.D. from Harvard School of Dental Medicine, his Ph.D. in
Pathology from the University of Chicago and his Oral Pathology
specialty education at the University of Minnesota and the Royal
Dental College, Copenhagen, Denmark. He has been active in
assessing and managing clinical oral pathology patients with soft and
hard tissue lesions. He maintains an active research program funded
by the United States National Institute for Dental and Craniofacial
Research that is focused on evaluating the molecular regulation of the
secondary palate to better understand the etiology of cleft palate birth
defects.
