Dental Hygiene Research Team wins Prestigious Grant for Clinical Trial

Vancouver, BC – UBC Faculty of Dentistry Dental Hygiene research team, Pauline Imai, Clinical Assistant Professor, and Penny Hatzimanolakis, part-time faculty member have been awarded the prestigious Canadian Foundation for Dental Hygiene Research and Education (CFDHRE) grant for 2008.
The $12,060 grant will be used to conduct a clinical trial comparing the ability of an interdental brush and dental floss to reduce plaque and bleeding on patients with intact papillae. The CFDHRE credits this project as very innovative with a high level of importance to the dental hygiene profession.

The CFDHRE funds dental hygiene research and education in order to enhance the oral health and well-being of Canadians.
The UBC Faculty of Dentistry is the only dental school in British Columbia. Established in 1962, the Faculty of Dentistry has recently marked the 40th anniversary of graduating dentists and dental hygienists. The majority of DMD graduates build careers in oral healthcare as general practitioners, most staying in British Columbia. The Faculty of Dentistry also offers studies in a variety of advanced dental education and specialty programs, research as well as Canada’s only 4 year degree program in Dental Hygiene.
