How to Become a Patient

If you wish to become a UBC patient, phone (604) 822-2112. The answering system will provide some information regarding the specific procedures that are offered in the Oral Health Centre (e.g. complete dentures, implants). If you believe that you require dental treatment, you will be asked to come for a scheduled screening appointment, which could last from ½ an hour up to three hours, to determine if your needs can be met by our  dental and dental hygiene students.

Please be prompt for your screening appointment. You will be met by one of our dental students who, along with a supervising instructor, will determine if our program is compatible with your needs. If you are accepted as a patient, the student dentist/hygienist will begin the initial information gathering and dental examination  process. This will generally include necessary x-rays, impressions for diagnostic tooth models, and clinical photographs (exam and x-ray fees will be charged and must be settled at the end of your appointment in addition to a $20 screening registration fee). No screening registration fee will be charged if you choose not to become a patient or if we cannot accept you for care.

You will be contacted at a later date by a student that has been assigned to you for your next appointment. Note:This may not be the same student that you saw at the first screening appointment, and may be many weeks after your first appointment. If you experience a dental emergency before your next visit, please phone our emergency line (604) 822-6917. An appointment will be arranged for you in the Urgent Care Clinic.
