Education Symposium & Research Day 2015

Enhancing Interdisciplinary Oral Health Education

Tuesday, January 27, 2015
UBC Student Union Building Ballroom

The Faculty of Dentistry at UBC has embraced the mission of advancing oral health through outstanding education, research, and community service. The 50th anniversary of UBC Dentistry was celebrated in 2014 and we now begin another stimulating 50 years. As knowledge rapidly evolves in science and technology, all undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate programs also continue to evolve, and in particular the DMD curriculum will undergo an exciting transformation starting in fall 2015. This has required concerted contributions from faculty members, staff, alumni, and students to renew the curriculum in ways that will benefit our future students.

In this symposium, changes in the new curriculum will be highlighted and selected successful initiatives supporting integrated and interprofessional learning and practice will be presented. Our keynote address by Dr. Dan Pratt will focus on lifelong learning and the concepts that curriculum design can embed to encourage a passion for learning in a professional career. Ultimately all of the participants should gain a much greater understanding of the rationale for the change in curriculum.
