Drs. Zul Kanji (L) and Denise Laronde.
The 10 most notable articles published in the Journal of Dental Education (JDE) in 2018 includes one by UBC Dentistry authors Drs. Zul Kanji and Denise Laronde titled “Career Outcomes of Dental Hygiene Baccalaureate Education: A Study of Graduates’ Professional Opportunities, Further Education, and Job Satisfaction.”
Each year the JDE, the premier journal for academic dentistry, calls attention to a group of articles—the 10 “editor’s picks”—that represent exceptional scholarship. They are selected for quality of research and presentation, importance of topic area and innovative approach.
Published in August 2018, the article† reports that 30 percent of graduates from ETP and degree-completion options have pursued graduate education (dental and craniofacial sciences, adult education, public health, business administration). Forty-five percent of graduates are working outside of the private clinical practice setting (education, public health, administration, industry, research). UBC graduates are practising in diverse settings and adopting leadership roles in society.
This is the second time in three years that a UBC Dentistry team has been ranked in the top 10 dental education publications in this journal. The last was in 2016.
