Dr. HsingChi von Bergmann has been selected as the 2016 recipient of the ADEA/ADEAGies Foundation Education Fellowship.
The American Dental Education Association (ADEA) is a [US] national organization representing academic dentistry. Members also include students, faculty, staff, and administrators from Canadian dental schools. The award was announced during the 2016 ADEA Annual Session & Exhibition in Denver, Colorado, in March.
The fellowship allows for a two- to three-month experience working at the ADEA office in Washington, DC.
Over the next year, working with colleagues at the ADEA Policy Office, she aims to further dental educators’ understanding in the areas of assessment of competencies, and assessment for competencies.
von Bergmann is an associate professor at the UBC Faculty of Dentistry. In this role, she mentors and conducts educational research. Her research foci include curriculum, instruction and assessment, problem-based learning, teacher beliefs and conceptions, and opportunities to learn.
The ADEA Gies Foundation Education Fellowship is a competitive award. Since 1993, there have been only 20 dental education researchers awarded this prestigious fellowship. von Bergmann is the first from Canadian dental school to receive it.
