This advanced training program in orthodontics enables Certified Dental Assistants, regulated by the BC College of Oral Health Professionals, to acquire the designation in expanded duties in Orthodontics. It is also an opportunity for Dental Hygienists, regulated by the College of Dental Hygienists of BC, to obtain formal advanced education in this area.
The University of British Columbia has been offering the Orthodontic Module since 1979, and the team of instructors is very committed to making this a valuable and successful learning experience. As the clinical portion of this course can be difficult for participants, it is a pre-requisite that those attending have a minimum of ONE year of clinical experience in a dental practice. Participants are also required to have a current active license to practice in British Columbia and should have good vision (or effective corrective lens) for close work.
Please note: During the course participants will work intraorally on each other and are required to have adequate bandable teeth. If in braces, participants will be required to dewire and debracket some teeth. Or, participants will need to provide a stand-in.
