Awards to UBC researchers at IADR 2019

Congratulations to the following graduate and undergraduate students who won awards at the 97th General Session of the International Association for Dental Research taking place in Vancouver from June 19 to 22, 2019.

Dr. Jiarui Bi won an award from the IADR Mineralized Tissue Research Group for his poster presentation: “Epithelial-Derived Microvesicles Regulate Osteogenic Differentiation in Fibroblasts.” Jiarui is a PhD candidate in Craniofacial Science supervised by Dr. Hannu Larjava. He received his award at the MGT Business Meeting on June 20, at the IADR General Session.

Maxine Harjani BDSc (DH) 2019 won first place in Jonathan Ship Award for undergraduate students (pre-dent). She won the award from IADR Geriatric Oral Research Group as a junior investigator supervised by Dr. Mario Brondani in the summer of 2018.

Dr. Nicholas Tong won second place in the J. Morita Post-Doctoral Award (for those with a DMD or equivalent and are in pursuit of research) from the IADR Geriatric Oral Research Group. Nicholas presented his poster “Five-Year Survival of Bonded Dental Restorations in Frail Older Adults.” He graduated with a Master of Science in Craniofacial Sciences degree in 2019 and was supervised by Dr. Chris Wyatt.
