At the annual College of Dental Surgeons of BC (CDSBC) awards ceremony held on March 7, 2013, 18 individuals were recognized for their contributions to the College.

UBC Dentistry alumni and faculty members were well represented among the award winners.

Distinguished Service Award

The College’s Distinguished Service Award recognizes outstanding and broad contributions to the profession of dentistry through extensive involvement with the College. This year’s UBC Dentistry-affiliated people are:

• Dr. Don Anderson, UBC Dentistry alumnus (DMD 1974); and
• Dr. Bob Coles, UBC Dentistry alumnus (DMD 1986), and member of the UBC Dentistry Board of Counsellors.

Award of Merit

The College’s Award of Merit recognizes significant contributions, beyond basic volunteer participation, that have had an impact on the profession of dentistry through involvement with CDSBC. This year it was conferred upon the following UBC Dentistry-affiliated people:

• Ms. Nadine Bunting, Clinical Instructor (Radiography), UBC Dentistry;
• Dr. Ken Chow, UBC Dentistry part-time faculty member;
• Dr. Karl Denk, UBC Dentistry alumnus (DMD 1983);
• Dr. Warren Ennis, UBC Dentistry alumnus (DMD 1983);
• Dr. Patricia Hunter, UBC Dentistry alumnus (DMD 1983); and
• Dr. David Lawson, UBC Dentistry alumnus (DMD 1975).

Special Group Award

The Special Group Award is presented to a group that has gone above and beyond basic volunteer participation to complete a special project or noteworthy task. This year, members of the Infection Prevention and Control Working Group were honoured with this award (UBC Dentistry-affiliation noted below in the group):

• Dr. Elizabeth Bryce (MD), Regional Medical Director for Infection Control at Vancouver Coastal Health Acute;
• Ms. Nadine Bunting, Clinical Instructor (Radiography), UBC Dentistry;
• Dr. Leeann Donnelly, Assistant Professor, UBC Dentistry, and MSc 2005 alumna;
• Dr. Edward Putnins, Professor and Associate Dean of Research, Graduate & Postgraduate Studies, UBC Dentistry, and PhD 1995 alumnus;
• Ms. Allison Ransier, Registered Dental Hygienist;
• Dr. Mel Sawyer, former UBC Dentistry faculty member; and
• Dr. Steven Wedan, UBC Dentistry alumnus (DMD 1988).
