UBC Prof. to present five lectures at Canadian Sleep Society conference

Renowned expert in dental sleep medicine at UBC, Dr. Fernanda Almeida, assistant professor in the Department of Oral Health Sciences, will present a series of five lectures at the upcoming 6th Conference of the Canadian Sleep Society. The conference will be held from October 4 to 6, 2013, in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Conference organizers are excited about this year’s dental program which includes talks focused on obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), pediatric OSA, non-surgical as well as dental appliances for the treatment for OSA, and long-term effectiveness of oral appliance therapy.

Presentations will be by experts in dental sleep medicine and in sleep medicine.

Over the three-day conference, Almedia’s lecture’s will address the following topics:

  • Efficacy of Dental Appliances in the Treatment of OSAS
  • Titration of Mandibular Positioning in OSA Patients, When is it Enough?
  • Dental and TMJ Side Effects of Oral Appliance Therapy
  • Pediatric Sleep Apnea, The Orthodontist Role
  • Cardiovascular Effects from Oral Appliance Treatment
