UBC recognizes 122 Thunderbird Academic All-Canadians—Dentistry student among them

John Sharp, second-year dental student, was among the 122 varsity athletes recognized this year at UBC’s Academic All-Canadian Breakfast of Champions on November 2, 2016.

Sharp is a forward on the UBC Thunderbirds men’s field hockey team.

An Academic All-Canadian is a UBC Thunderbird athlete who achieves an average of 80 percent or higher in their classes while competing in a UBC varsity sport during the season. In this case, the 2015 – 16 season.

Hailing from Victoria, Sharp started playing varsity field hockey when he came to UBC to study chemical biology.

Last February the UBC Thunderbirds men’s field hockey team earned a victory in four-game series against US national team at the US Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, California. Sharp scored one of the goals for UBC to beat the Americans 2-1.
