In Memoriam
We are sad to announce that former staff supervisor Judith (Judy) Willcox passed away on November 23, 2023.
Judy moved to Canada from the United Kingdom in 1963 and embarked on her career at UBC Dentistry in 1964—the same year the Faculty of Dentistry was established—and remained a loyal staff member until her retirement in 2007. Judy was a special person and a force to be reckoned with. She was present during the 1973 UBC strike that saw the library, clerical and secretarial staff unionized. Following the strike, she was famously remembered for refusing to make coffee for the clinic director on her first day back to work as a union member.
Judy was known for her positive energy, encouraging demeanor and quick British wit. Over the course of more than 40 years with UBC Dentistry, Judy made many friends and is fondly remembered as part of the glue that held the Faculty together. She will be truly missed.
