Scotia Professional® Student Plan for Dental Hygiene Students

UBC is the first dental school in Canada with access to an education financing program for all eligible Dental Hygiene Degree Program students. This program, exclusive to UBC, is made possible through a unique partnership with Scotiabank and includes education financing, a preferred banking package, premium credit cards and other tailored advice and solutions to meet your financial needs as a dental hygiene student.

TD Student Line of Credit

Beginning May 1, 2025, TD is pleased to offer a Student Line of Credit for DMD students. Here’s how TD can work for you:

  • Apply and get approved for a TD Student Line of Credit by October 31, 2025, and open by November 30, and you could get a cash bonus of $1,000. Eligible TD chequing account required.
  • Borrow up to $400,000, plus up to $25,000 additional for eligible specialty programs.
  • No Cosigner is required for Canadian students attending an accredited Canadian DMD program. Additional conditions apply.
  • Pricing at wallet friendly interest rates.

Indigenous Financial Guide

The Indigenous Student Support team can be reached through es.indigenous@ubc.ca If you need any support with writing a personal statement, please reach out! They can set up a one-on-one support and guidance.

Emergency Bursary Funding

Visit the Enrolment Services bursary website for more information and to apply, or contact your Enrolment Services Advisor. (DMD and Grad Students can find an advisor by emailing es.medsupport@ubc.ca; Dental Hygiene students can look at the SISC for their assigned Enrolment Services Advisor).

Emergency funding also includes the Sweet Student Emergency Bursary Fund, established by our dental community, to assist UBC Dentistry students facing personal challenges such as medical issues, illnesses, or family tragedies and who are in need of financial assistance. Emergency funding is to help cover a temporary shortfall due to an unexpected situation when all other financial options have been exhausted; emergency funding is accessible to all students who meet the emergency bursary eligibility requirements.

UBC Dentistry Awards and Bursaries

Through the generosity of our supporters, the UBC Dentistry Student Awards program enables us to provide financial support for our students and continue to highlight and celebrate their academic achievements, leadership and success as future oral healthcare professionals, researchers, and academics.

B.C. Access Grant

From August 1, 2020, a new needs-based, up-front B.C. Access Grant provides non-repayable financial support of up to $4,000 a year for students at B.C. public post-secondary institutions.

Students applying for student aid for programs at B.C. public post-secondary institutions starting in September 2020 will be automatically assessed for the B.C. Access Grant. For more information on how to apply to StudentAid BC, please see How to apply for a loan.
