Fees Information

Application Fees

ADEA AADSAS charges $259 for the first program you apply to and $112 for each additional program (some programs may have an additional supplemental fee). UBC FoD does not charge a supplemental application fee for AADSAS applications.

Applicants applying to ADEA AADSAS-participating Canadian dental schools will receive a 25% discount on each Canadian dental school application to account for the exchange rate difference. Applicants will first pay the full fee amount in US dollars to submit the application. The 25% discount will be processed separately.

An application processing fee of CAD $242.5 must be submitted for direct applications to UBC Faculty of Dentistry (not applicable for candidates applying through AADSAS) to cover the costs of evaluating educational documents. This fee is non-refundable and does not apply to tuition. All fees must be paid online. Personal cheque/cash are not accepted.

Deposit

Accepted applicants are required to submit a deposit of $11,250.00 within four weeks (Dec-May) or two weeks (May-Aug) of notification of acceptance by the faculty. This deposit is non-refundable and will be applied toward first term clinic fees of the session for which the student has been accepted.

Awards

There are numerous awards for which dental students are eligible. Awards, Scholarships and Prizes are typically awarded based on high academic standing although some awards may also stipulate criteria such as demonstrated leadership qualities or community involvement.

Please note that you do not apply individually for any of the awards. Scholarships, Prizes and Awards are generally awarded by nomination by the Faculty. Bursary assistance is available based on financial need and the availability of University funds. To be eligible for bursary assistance including Dentistry-specific bursaries, you must submit an application to the Student Financial Assistance and Awards Office. To obtain information on bursary applications and deadlines, click on “Scholarships & Bursaries” in the left hand column of the Awards screen.


Housing and Childcare

The University provides accommodation for almost 7,000 single students, student families, faculty and staff. You have several options when selecting on-campus housing at UBC. There are residences for single people, couples, families with children, and larger townhouses for sharing with other students. For more detailed information about housing options on campus, including costs and access to the on-line application service, go to the UBC Housing website for further information.

For information on on-campus accommodation not operated by UBC Housing, and information on off-campus housing, visit www.amsrentsline.com. Off-campus accommodation in Vancouver can be expensive and particularly difficult to get later in the summer. You should plan to arrive in Vancouver early if you need to rent off campus.

For information on the UBC Child Care Services, visit www.childcare.ubc.ca. UBC Child Care Services offer excellent facilities and space is very limited. If you think you will need child care services, you should contact them immediately to have your name placed on a wait list.

Cost of Living

The cost of living in Vancouver can vary substantially depending on many factors. The following is a very rough estimate for living costs for a 12 month period:

  • housing and utilities (based on $800 – $1,200 per month): $9,600 – $14,400
  • groceries and food: $3,000
  • British Columbia Medical Services Plan basic health insurance: $650
  • books and supplies: $1,200
  • clothing, personal care, and miscellaneous expenses: $3,000
  • temporary accommodation (e.g. hotel) upon arrival to Vancouver: $500

These cost sum to approximately $17,950 – $22,750 per 12 month period, not including the cost of tuition, student fees, and the extended health and dental plan.
